Dejan Lovren Accuses Liverpool of Showing Mohamed Salah ‘Lack of Respect’

  • Ex-Liverpool defender claims the club isn’t valuing Salah enough
  • Salah yet to agree on a new contract and could leave as a free agent
  • Lovren believes replacing Salah would cost Liverpool at least €200m

Lovren Speaks Out on Salah’s Uncertain Future

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has slammed the club for not showing enough “respect” to Mohamed Salah, as uncertainty grows over the Egyptian superstar’s future at Anfield.

Salah’s current contract expires in June 2025, and despite his record-breaking form this season, he has yet to sign an extension. The lack of movement on a new deal has sparked rumors of a potential exit, with Salah himself previously admitting that he is “more out than in” at Liverpool.

Lovren, now playing for PAOK in Greece, remains close friends with Salah from their time together at Liverpool and has revealed that he has personally spoken to him about his next move.

“I have to be careful what I say now because I know a lot of things,” Lovren told WinWin. “Everyone wants him to stay, and I called him one day and said: ‘Mo, you have to think about yourself. Look at everything you’ve given this club and what you can still give.'”

“In the end, I came to the conclusion that the club doesn’t respect him enough.”

Liverpool Risks Losing Salah for Free

Liverpool reportedly offered Salah a contract in December, but no agreement has been reached, fueling speculation that he could walk away for free at the end of the season. Salah is already eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club, with Saudi Pro League teams heavily linked.

Lovren suggests that Salah is “closer to leaving than staying at the moment” but insists his departure would be a huge mistake for Liverpool.

“Money is an important factor, but he is worth more than money. The question is: who will replace him? Who will give you what Mohamed Salah offers?”

“If you want to replace him, I think you need to spend €200m, and even then, will you find someone who can do what Salah does?”

Salah Still Wants to Stay at Liverpool

Despite the growing uncertainty, Lovren insists that Salah’s preference is to remain at Liverpool, but he feels the decision may no longer be in his hands.

“He loves Liverpool a lot, and he wants to stay. That’s the most important part,” Lovren added. “Maybe he even sees himself retiring there—I’m not entirely sure about that.”

“But, in the end, it’s about other people!”

With Liverpool still in the Premier League title race and competing for silverware, Salah’s form has been crucial to their success. However, if a contract renewal isn’t finalized soon, Liverpool fans may have to prepare for the unthinkable—Salah leaving Anfield for good.
